News and Site Updates

08/02/2024 Update, Part 2:

It's not something I expected to knock out in a few hours, but there's been a minor overhaul. You may notice that there's now a landing page to the site, and this page's url has changed accordingly. The landing page itself is simple, but I like it.

I've also expanded the navigational sidebar to the rest of the site - with the exception of Colress's list, since he seems to want everyone to at least skim the list before leaving. I'll let him have it.

08/02/2024 Update:

I'm back.

After Colress's significant list update, I have some smaller changes to the site. Consider it a cool-down.

I'd like to extend special thanks to Colress, both for his work on the the Neocities Pokemon site list, and for setting up the directory sidebar. The list is something I'm personally interested in keeping updated, and may expand it to include some of the more popular or strictly collection-oriented sites here on Neocities. I haven't yet seen a full directory for something like that, and it would be a relatively simple thing to upkeep while also being engaging. If that does happen, I'll likely keep Colress's initial list intact and make a new page for the directory. Until then, I'm content to keep it up as-is as one of the main features of the site.

Also, as a clarifying note for those confused or curious: this is not a roleplay gimmick. Please do not mistake it for such. You can consider the identities of "Saturn" and "Colress" to be aliases if you wish. Thank you for your understanding.

06/02/2024 Update: Special Colress Takeover Edition, Part 2

Colress again! The page is all cleaned up and should be ready to go. I'm very pleased to present my very own "Notable Pokemon Sites on Neocities" list! 40 different sites with a small discription for each, including notes regarding significant instances of flashing lights for those who want/need to avoid them. Most of what I'd like to say about the sites are discussed on the page, so for this news update I'd like to talk a little more about the inspiration for the list itself.

Initially, there was no intention to make a list at all. I'd found myself browsing the Pokemon tag just for something fun, but ended up stumbling upon quite a few sites that had significantly less traffic than many of the well-known sites, but were still incredibly interesting in their own right. After mentioning on Twitter that I can found so many different sites, a friend suggested posting links to some, and the idea sprang from there. At first it was simply going to be a short thread, but as I looked I found more and more websites that deserved to have a little light shed on them for one reason or another.

There are so many wonderful creatives making things on Neocities, and so many of them love Pokemon enough to at least devote a small part of their site with them! From corners decorated with Mew or Pikachu gifs, to single-page stories of how someone encountered their very first Pokemon, to sub-site shrines sharing information about their favorite Pokemon or beloved teams, to full stand-alone fansites encouraging and involving themselves in the surrounding community of those who love Pokemon.

Each and every one of these things are wonderful, and I was lucky enough to see so much of it in only a few days! There was so much that I wanted to share. In the end, in just two days I sifted through the tag for websites that were focused on Pokemon in some significant way. Many sites within the tag are simply used as carrd alternatives or mostly untouched from their initial creation. But I wanted to go through every publically-listed site (as of writing, there are 11 pages) and find what was interesting to myself, and hopefully to others as well.

If even one person who encounters this list finds a new site that they love, or makes them consider another way to approach Pokemon - as a franchise, as a game, as a world - I'll consider this list an overwhelming success.

And again, as I say on the list page: if you, reading this, happen to be the author of any of these sites, I want to thank you. Your enjoyment of and love for Pokemon is amazing. The fact that you created anything at all can touch the lives of others. I know that it touched mine, and encouraged me to share and to create in return.

Much love. - Colress

06/02/2024 Update: Special Colress Takeover Edition, Part 1

Hello all! I have an unexpected update for you all coming later today (the setup for which you can find, if you're nosy), and while it's not what Saturn was planning, I hope you'll enjoy it anyway. I'm sure that over time it will be replaced with bigger and better things, but I had so much fun putting it together that I wanted to share!

Once I've polished things up to my liking and it's live on the site, I'll pop in with another update talking more about it. See you all soon!

- Colress
